How to Use Pathworking Meditation to Secure a Paredros Spirit Companion

Listen to a guided paredros spirit companion pathworking meditation here

In the world of ceremonial and esoteric magic, there are few relationships as powerful, or as personal, as that between a practitioner and their paredros. This spirit companion, sometimes known as a guide, intermediary, or spiritual assistant, plays a subtle yet profound role: offering insight, protection, and guidance in both magical and mystical work.

While many traditions outline ritual evocation or spirit pacts to obtain such an ally, there is another, gentler method: pathworking meditation. This technique allows you to contact, communicate with, and ultimately secure a paredros through visionary journeying.

In this post, we’ll walk step-by-step through how to approach this process, mindfully, safely, and with spiritual integrity.

What Is Pathworking?

Pathworking is a form of guided inner journeying, often used to explore symbolic landscapes, such as those found in the Qabalistic Tree of Life, mythological realms, or elemental temples. It can be done through visualisation, trance, or deep meditation.

Unlike passive meditation, pathworking is interactive: you move through an inner world, encountering beings, symbols, and places that reflect your subconscious and spiritual reality. It’s a powerful tool for meeting spiritual beings, including a potential paredros.

Step One: Prepare the Space and Self

As with any spiritual work, preparation is key. Before attempting a pathworking to contact a paredros, take time to:

  • Purify your space: Use incense, sound, or banishing rituals (e.g. LBRP)
  • Ground and centre: Deep breathing, body awareness, or elemental visualisation
  • Set a clear intention: Write down what you seek, e.g. “To meet and form a connection with a willing paredros”
  • Protect yourself: Visualise a sphere of light or call on a trusted guide or deity for oversight
  • Create ritual atmosphere: Dim lighting, candles, soft ambient music or binaural beats can help

Have a journal ready nearby for recording any impressions afterwards.

Step Two: Enter the Inner Landscape

Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes, and begin to focus on your breath.

Now imagine yourself standing before a gateway, a doorway, arch, or path in nature. This is the threshold of your pathworking.

With each breath, step forward and enter the landscape beyond. This space may unfold organically, or you may set the scene, a forest, temple, cave, or inner sanctum, somewhere that feels sacred and protected.

Walk slowly and with intention. Take note of your surroundings. Let your inner world build itself naturally.

Step Three: Call the Paredros

Once you feel settled in this inner space, speak aloud or silently the intention of your journey:

“I call to the one who walks beside me.

Paredros, spirit companion, if there is one willing to work with me in truth and light,

let us meet now in this sacred space.”

Pause. Wait. Be open.

You may begin to sense a presence, or see a form emergingm human, animal, or abstract. Sometimes the paredros appears clearly; other times, only as a voice, a light, or an impression. Trust what arises, and resist the urge to overanalyse.

Step Four: Engage and Discern

If a being appears, take time to observe and communicate. You might ask:

  • What is your name or nature?
  • Are you willing to walk with me in my magical work?
  • What are your gifts or qualities?
  • Do you seek anything in return?

Genuine paredroi are calm, wise, and supportive. They do not demand, deceive, or sow confusion. Trust your instincts, if something feels “off,” you may politely end the pathworking and try again another time.

If the presence is strong, you may feel moved to offer a gesture of consent, such as sharing your magical name, offering light or symbolic items, or simply speaking your willingness aloud.

Step Five: Secure the Connection

Once trust has been established, you may begin to anchor the connection. Ask the paredros:

  • How may I call on you again?
  • Is there a sigil, symbol, or image I should use?
  • Do you prefer a physical offering, such as incense, candles, or water?

In your pathworking, you might be guided to construct a symbolic pact or ritual, this can be done in the inner world or mirrored later in waking life.

Then, thank the paredros for their presence. Let them know the door remains open, and that you honour the beginning of your shared path.

Step Six: Return and Reflect

When you’re ready, slowly retrace your steps back through the path, returning through the gateway, back into your physical body. Wiggle your fingers and toes, take a deep breath, and open your eyes.

Immediately record everything you experienced:

  • Visuals, feelings, symbols, words
  • The spirit’s form, presence, or name
  • Any emotional responses or bodily sensations

This record will help you track the evolution of your relationship with the paredros over time.

Repeat, Deepen, and Respect

One journey is rarely enough to fully secure a paredros. Consistency and patience are vital. Return to the same inner space regularly to strengthen the bond. Leave offerings if agreed. Speak aloud to the spirit in your daily practice.

Most importantly: treat the relationship with respect and ethical care. This is not about controlling a spirit, it is about recognising a spiritual ally and walking the magical path with integrity.

Final Thoughts: Walking the Inner Path, Together

Pathworking offers a profound and personal method for contacting a paredros. It combines imagination, devotion, and discipline to create a living bridge between yourself and the unseen world.

Unlike ritual evocation or ceremonial binding, pathworking meditation works from the inside out, focusing not on command, but on mutual resonance and recognition.

When approached with sincerity, a paredros may not only assist you in magic, but become one of the most powerful relationships in your spiritual life.
