Full Moon Ritual – A Solitary Ceremony Under the Moonlight

Introduction

This ritual is designed for a solitary practitioner and is ideally performed outdoors under the light of the Full Moon. However, it can be easily adapted for indoor use: simply substitute the fire with candles, turn off electric lights, and keep the curtains open to allow moonlight into the space.

The Ritual

1. Casting the Circle
Begin by casting a circle using a wand, sword, athame, or whatever feels right to you. Move clockwise, visualising a sphere of light forming around your ritual space.

Light a fire in the centre of the circle, or candles, if you’re indoors.

2. Drumming to Ground and Centre
Sit or stand before the fire or candles and begin drumming steadily. Let the rhythm calm your mind and connect you to the Earth. Drum until you feel centred and ready to begin.

3. Opening the Ritual
Say aloud:
“Tonight I celebrate the Full Moon.”

Take a few deep, slow breaths to clear your energy. When you feel calm and focused, walk clockwise around the inside of your circle while playing a singing bowl or ringing a bell to purify the space.

Return to the centre.

Say:
“I attune myself to the Divine.”

Chant:
“Om”
Continue until you feel attuned and ready to proceed.

Elemental Invocation for Well-being

Face North and say:
“In the North, I honour the sacred Earth and the power of physical well-being.”

Chant three times:
“Physical well-being, come to me.”

Face East and say:
“In the East, I honour the sacred Air and the power of mental well-being.”

Chant three times:
“Mental well-being, come to me.”

Face South and say:
“In the South, I honour the sacred Fire and the power of energetic well-being.”

Chant three times:
“Energy well-being, come to me.”

Face West and say:
“In the West, I honour the sacred Water and the power of emotional well-being.”

Chant three times:
“Emotional well-being, come to me.”

Return to the centre and gaze into the flame.

Say:
“In the Centre, I honour Spirit and the power of spiritual well-being.”

Chant three times:
“Spiritual well-being, come to me.”

Moon Invocation and Healing

Now face the Moon.
Say:
“I honour and attune to the powers of the Full Moon.”

Chant three times:
“I attune to the fullness of the Moon.”

Say:
“I invoke the sacred Moon using sacred names. I honour and call upon the Full Moon Goddesses and Gods, the Animal Spirits, and the Sacred Plants to join me in this rite.”

Chant three times:
“Sacred Moon, come to me.”

Chant:
“Om”
Continue until you feel the connection deepen.

Raise your arms to the Moon and say:
“I draw down the power of the Full Moon into myself.”
“Let me become one with the sacred Moon. Let me be blessed with its healing light. So mote it be.”

Say:
“With the Moon’s sacred energy, I now send healing to myself and others.”

Chant three times:
“Be well.”

Say:
“I honour my connection with Mother Earth and send healing to the web of life.”

Chant three times:
“Healing for the Earth.”

Closing the Ritual

Say:
“I give thanks to the Full Moon.”

Chant:
“Moonlight on the Earth, moonlight in the air,
Moonlight through the trees, moonlight everywhere.
Moonlight in the fire, moonlight on the sea,
Moonlight in all beings, moonlight within me.”

Say:
“I give thanks to the North and Earth, East and Air, South and Fire, West and Water, Centre and Spirit.
I give thanks to this sacred circle and to the Divine.”

Chant three times:
“I give thanks.”

Say:
“The circle is open, but never broken.”

To Finish:

Drum or dance joyfully around the fire or candles, feeling the Moon’s energy within and around you. Continue until you feel the ritual is complete, then step gently out of the circle.
