Meditating for Peace: A Spiritual Response to Troubled Times

“Britain’s biggest companies are preparing for a third world war.”
– The Telegraph

“Are we heading for another world war – or has it already started?”
– The Guardian

Headlines like these are enough to make anyone uneasy. We’re currently in a time that’s defined by rising tensions and global instability, so it’s hard not to wonder: are we on the brink of something catastrophic?

Like many others, I felt the weight of that question. So to seek clarity, I turned to the time old traditional method of divination that is geomancy. I cast the figures and received Via as the Judge, with Puella and Rubeus as the Left and Right Witnesses. For those unfamiliar with geomantic symbolism, this wasn’t exactly reassuring. Via suggests a journey or path, often toward change or uncertainty. Puella, while gentle, indicates instability. Rubeus, associated with Mars, is a figure of fiery temperament and chaos. The message was clear: the road ahead could be volatile.

So, What Can We Actually Do?

Beyond the practical, stockpiling supplies, staying informed, and hoping conscription doesn’t return, it’s easy to feel helpless. Protesting may feel futile, or even dangerous in today’s climate. But feeling powerless is not the same as being powerless. There is something we can do, something subtle, perhaps, but deeply rooted in magical tradition.

We can meditate.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking: “Meditation? Really? Against war?”

But before you roll your eyes, hear me out.

Drawing Inspiration from Dion Fortune

During the darkest days of the Second World War, occultist and author Dion Fortune spearheaded a series of magical workings for the protection of Britain. She and her group meditated at the same time each week, visualising symbols of strength, peace, and national guardianship. They believed that focused thought, amplified across space and time could influence the collective psyche and shift the spiritual tide.

It may sound “woo woo,” but it’s no stranger than placing faith in politicians or pundits. If you already meditate, why not direct that time toward something larger than yourself? and if you’re new to the practice, I can’t think of a better or more meaningful reason to start.

So How Would This Work?

The key lies in focused intention and shared practice. The strength of Dion Fortune’s workings was not just in the symbolism or even the content of the meditation, it was the unity of effort. A group, no matter how far-flung, can synchronise their minds and aim their energy toward a common purpose. In magic, as in physics, resonance matters.

A Simple Meditation for Peace

You don’t need elaborate robes or sacred tools. Just 15 minutes and an open heart.

I propose we follow Fortune’s example:

  • Every Sunday, from 12:15 to 12:30 PM
  • Sit comfortably in a dim and quit room
  • Close your eyes and visualise a white dove (a timeless emblem of peace)
  • Set against a sky-blue background, (the colour of healing, calm, and higher communication)
  • Whilst humming 528 Hz, (the frequency often associated with love and transformation)
  • Imagine that as the dove circles the earth, its spreads, peace, love, and unity.

This isn’t about escapism. It’s about engagement, engaging with the world through subtle energy, through intention, through hope.

Final Thoughts

No one knows what the future holds. But if we wait for certainty before taking action, we’ll wait forever. Meditation won’t stop tanks or silence missiles, but it might anchor peace in the collective unconscious, plant seeds of calm in the storm, or protect someone you’ll never meet from harm.

Isn’t that worth fifteen minutes?
