Thme: The Living Scales of Ma’at

When working with godform meditations or ceremonial magic, practitioners often seek out the big names like Isis, Thoth and Horus, but every now and then, a lesser-known deity steps forward, subtle yet powerful, asking to be understood. Thme (sometimes spelled Tme or Themê) is one such figure, whose quiet, balanced, and deeply resonant for those drawn to truth, justice, and cosmic order.

So who is Thme?

Thme is a lesser-known Egyptian goddess often associated with, or even considered an aspect of Ma’at, the principle of universal balance. While Ma’at represents the overarching cosmic order, Thme is its focused embodiment in human judgment, legal fairness, and ethical equilibrium. Think of her as the divine stillness behind the judge’s gavel, the sacred pause where truth settles like dust in a sunbeam.

In the Hermetic tradition and Western ceremonial magic, Thme takes on a special significance as the embodiment of divine justice and inner clarity. When we speak of aligning ourselves with “higher truths” or being “in balance,” we’re echoing Thme’s influence. She is the still voice that says: is this aligned? Not with ego or preference, but with something deeper, the soul’s compass.

Thme in Magical Practice

In the context of godform work, particularly in traditions stemming from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Thme often appears in the Hall of the Neophytes, standing silently beside the throne of judgment. She is sometimes visualised with scales and a sword, but she is not a warrior. Her power is in her presence, not her force. She doesn’t punish, she reveals and balances.

When you invoke Thme as a godform in meditation or ritual, you are not asking for answers. You are creating space for truth to emerge. Her energy is excellent to work with when you feel out of alignment, when decisions must be made with integrity, or when seeking clarity in matters of justice, be they external or internal.

A Simple Godform Meditation with Thme

Find a quiet space. Breathe rhythmically to center yourself, and call to mind the image of a still courtroom, not earthly, but archetypal. Imagine a tall figure in white and deep indigo robes, bearing golden scales that never waver. Her eyes are calm, unflinching. She does not speak unless spoken to.

In your mind’s eye, step forward and place your question, your concern, or your imbalance on one side of the scale. Observe what rises. Observe what falls. Ask her “What truth do I need to see” And listen, not for words, but for the quiet inner shift that follows.

Even a brief encounter with Thme can bring a sense of profound neutrality. It’s not comfort, exactly. It’s not reassurance. It’s deeper than that, it’s the feeling of your inner compass re-aligning with true north.

A more elaborate Meditation with Thme

Step One: Preparation

Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. You may light a white or indigo candle, and if you have a sword, wand, or symbolic scales, you can place them before you.

Sit comfortably with your spine straight. Let your hands rest on your lap, palms up. Close your eyes. Take several deep breaths, slow and steady. With each exhale, release tension from your body.

Say inwardly or aloud:

“I enter the stillness.
I seek alignment with the sacred law.
By the name of Thme, I open the inner gate.”

Step Two: Visualise the Godform of Thme

In your mind’s eye, begin to see a presence forming before you.

A tall figure approaches, calm, regal, and serene. She is robed in deep indigo and shimmering white. Upon her brow rests a golden diadem. In her right hand she carries a sword pointed downward, and in her left a perfectly balanced scale.

Her face is composed and luminous, neither cold nor overly warm, she is impartial, yet deeply wise. She radiates a sense of rightness. Of sacred law that transcends time.

Around her, the air seems to still. You may feel a subtle pressure in the room, as if truth itself were present.

Step Three: Merge with the Godform

As you continue to breathe, feel her stepping closer, until she stands directly in front of you. Her eyes meet yours, and something passes between you, not judgment, but invitation.

Say silently or aloud:

“Thme, bearer of sacred law,
Enter into my heart.
Let me walk in justice,
Speak in truth,
And act in harmony with the divine.”

As her form begins to merge with yours, feel yourself straighten. A sense of inner order awakens. Chaos settles. You are still, but alert. Present. Poised between thought and action.

You are not weighed down, you are balanced.

Step Four: Assume the Godform of Thme

Now, become Thme.

Feel yourself standing tall, sword in one hand, scales in the other. You are the measure of your own heart. Not from ego, but from clarity. You embody truth, not as a rigid rulebook, but as a living current.

Say within:

“I am Thme.
I am sacred law.
I am balance made visible.
Where I stand, there is rightness.”

Allow this state to unfold for several minutes. Let your breathing match the rhythm of this godform: calm, steady, unwavering.

If any inner conflict or question arises, allow it to rest in the scales. Simply observe what is, there is no need to judge or fix. Just witness.

Step Five: Release and Ground

When you are ready, gently allow the form of Thme to separate from you. Thank her for her presence and wisdom:

“Thme, Lady of the Scales,
Thank you for your guidance.
Let my steps remain aligned
With the sacred path.”

Take a few deep breaths. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Return fully to your space.

You may wish to extinguish your candle or give a small offering of water or incense in thanks.

After the Meditation

This godform meditation is especially helpful before rituals involving judgment, decision-making, or spiritual evaluation such as initiation work, oaths, or pathworking through the Qabalistic sephiroth of Geburah or Tiphareth.

Working regularly with Thme can cultivate not just discernment, but a quiet confidence that your actions are in right relationship with the cosmos.
